The applicant’s request for a 1 <br />variance from the side yard setback to allow for the construction the garage addition is 2 <br />reasonable, per the findings listed in City Code. Upon variance criteria review, it was determined 3 <br />all criterion were met. The Planning Commission met on January 25, 2016, held a public hearing 4 <br />and recommended approval. 5 <br /> 6 <br /> Councilmember Stille asked if the garage addition is part of an overall house remodel and Mr. 7 <br />Gondorchin stated it is. Councilmember Stille asked if there are two points of access to the alley. 8 <br />Mr. Gondorchin stated the applicant looked at putting the garage in the back of the property but 9 <br />determined that was not feasible. 10 <br /> 11 <br /> Mike from Swedo Properties & Design, stated the garage would be accessible from the front. An 12 <br />addition would be constructed off the back of the home and be attached to the garage. A 13 <br />bedroom, master bath, living room and mudroom would be added to the home. 14 <br /> 15 <br />Motion by Councilmember Gray, seconded by Councilmember Brever, to approve Resolution 16 <br />No. 16-018; a Resolution approving a variance from the required yard setback in order to 17 <br />construct a larger garage at the property located at 2841 Coolidge Street. 18 <br /> 19 <br />Motion carried 4-0 20 <br /> 21 <br />VI. GENERAL BUSINESS OF COUNCIL 22 <br /> 23 <br />A. Resolution 16-019 a Resolution Calling for a Hearing for the 2016 Street and Utility 24 <br />Improvements. 25 <br /> 26 <br />City Engineer Todd Hubmer reviewed this resolution sets a public hearing to be held on March 27 <br />8, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. On January 27, 2016, bids for the 2016 Street and Utility Improvement 28 <br />Project were opened. The low bid received for the project was $2,060,276.95, this total does not 29 <br />include separate quotes received for railroad crossing and street lighting improvements of 30 <br />approximately $154,000, for a total construction cost of approximately $2,215,000. The total 31 <br />cost of the improvement as presented to Council when seeking approval of plans, which includes 32 <br />engineering, legal, and administrative fees was $2,700,000. The St. Anthony Village portion of 33 <br />this project is anticipated to be approximately $1,465,000. This is a cooperative project with the 34 <br />City of Columbia Heights. 35 <br /> 36 <br />Councilmember Stille asked for confirmation that Columbia Heights needs to approve their 37 <br />aspect of this project.
