-5-
• /The meeting was recessed at 9:25 P.M. so that the members of the Planning Board;
f McGinn, Bowerman, Marks and Letourneau, could discuss with Mr. Rod Bernu, 7b20
Unity Avenue North, his request for a change in site plans occasioned by the dis.-
covery of poor compacting of the soil at one corner of the lot where the Bernu
Company had been granted a building permit for a three story office building.
The meeting was reconvened at 9:45 P.M. when Dors. McGinn indicated that the Plan-
ning Board members present had no objections to the changes in the site plans.
Motion by Councilman Sundland, seconded by Councilman Stauffer to authorize and
approve of the resiting plans for the office building to be constructed in the
office park by the Bernu Construction Company as per the plans presented by Mr.
Bernu.
Motion carried.
Mr. Bernu was advised to contact the City Manager regarding the application
or a public hearing on the sign variance for the office building.
Mayor Miedtke urged the Council members to attend the Metro Assoc. meeting October
31 where congressional and legislative candidates will discuss the problems
germane to the suburban interests.
Mr. Dulgar told Councilman Haik that a malfunction of the alarm system had result-
ed in the blowing of the siren about which she had received complaints.
Councilman Sundland reported that his contacts with Minneapolis officials in-
dicated a lack of awareness of the assessment deferment law as it applied to
senior citizens. Councilman Haik said the Ramsey County Assessors Office was
asked why notices had not been sent. She also reported that Shoreview was working
on the criteria for deferment and that the Assessor felt the criteria closest
to that which he felt should be used in granting deferments would be that on
which medical assistance is granted. Mayor Miedtke said one person who had
expressed a desire for deferment of the assessment had requested to appear before
the Council to apply for the deferment.
Jim Fornell's memo of October 18th dealing with adjustments on assessments for 12
parcels along the 3100 block of Fdirards and Wilson streets was discussed and he
told the Council such adjustments could be made prior to December 15th when the
assessments would go on the County computers. The Mayor suggested considering
each case as it came up and Mr. Vickrey advised that any adjustment where the
assessment was raised had to be brought to a public hearing.
Motion by Councilman Sundland, seconded by Councilman Stauffer to direct the
City Manager to set public hearings for the purpose of making adjustments in the
assessment rolls whenever information to justify such changes is available.
Motion carried.
Councilman Stauffer wanted the Council to take under consideration at the next
• Council meeting the revision of the resolution establishing the Human Relations
Committee so that the provision requiring that Committee members be of voting age
could be deleted.
Mr. Vickrey spoke of the Renaissance Fair to be held in the Butler Building in
Downtown Minneapolis in which he felt some of the community groups in St. Anthony
might be interested in participating.
