There was also <br /> a ma:'Ifiration of the Committee's proposal for conjunction of 29th and Highway 8. <br /> The plans with the suggested changes had not yet been received by the Committee <br /> and Mr. Shabaz said the letter did not answer the Committee's questions to State <br /> officials regarding the restriction cf truck traffic or funding of curb and <br /> gutter repiacement, nor did it verify whether funds would be avaiinbie to comp- <br /> ensate the City for the damage done to the stt-:etc by trucks, buses and cars <br /> &I-ira the time 29th served as a detour while Highway 8 was being reconstructed. <br /> The Manager also reported that he had received no reply to his queries to the <br /> • Highway Department regarding such compensation for damage to 29th and was to <br /> further pursue the matter with Commissioner Marzetelii . <br /> There was some discussion of which engineering firm would prepare the cost <br /> estimates for the new proposal to be presented to property owners on 29th but <br /> it was agreed that the perogative should rest with the Council and the following <br /> motion was made: <br /> Motion by Mayor Miedtke, seconded by Councilman Stauffer to request that the City <br /> Enaineer prepare cost estimates for upgrading 29th Avenue based on the modific- <br /> ations made to the Committee's design by the State officials including the <br /> possible funding of the costs of curb and gutter installation and other potential <br /> costs, with the Planager to pursue the availability of compensation from the State <br /> for damage done to the street when it served as a detour. All the above inform- <br /> ation is to be provided to the T.A.F. Committee so they may report their <br /> recommendations back to the Council at the Povember lath Council meeting. <br /> Motion carried unanimously. <br /> Councilman Haik reported queries from residents who wondered why driving lanes <br /> were not painted in on Silver Lake Road to indicate four lanes of traffic on <br /> that road. The Manager said the City felt it was better not to encourage the <br /> use of Silver Lake Road south of 37th Avenue N.E. as a four lane roadway. <br /> Motion by Councilman tlaik, seconded by Mayor Miedtke to request Hennepin County <br /> to stripe and paint ''right turn lane only" at the 29th and 33rd Avenue inter- <br /> sections with Silver Lake Road. <br /> M,nti7n carried unanimously. <br />
