• Councilmen Sauer and Sundland have submitted in writing their re-
sponse to Councilman Haiks 's August 4th memo regarding the selection
process for hiring a new City Manager.
Several persons have contacted Mr. Fornell indicating they would like
to appear before the Council. Because of the press of public hearings
and budget hearings, November seemed to be the best date for schedul-
ing such visits.
Joan Campbell, who represents this area on the Metropllitan Council
and is Chairman of the Metro' s Human Resources Advisory Committee, and
Hennepin County Attorney Gary Flakney's forum on crime prevention will
be scheduled for that month by Mr. Fornell.
Councilman Sundland said he would like an opportunity to discuss
potential flooding after heavy rains with a member of the Metro Sewer
Board as well. Along the same line, Mr. Fornell will get a progress
report from Comstock and Davis, Inc. , regarding his earlier negotiations
with Roseville and Minneapolis for use and possible expansion of
their sewer lines in an emergency. He will also refer all communications
which are pertinent to Terry Hoffman who is reported to be serving
as acting chairman of the City' s Human Relations Committee and will
check with him on whether all positions on the committee are filed.
Councilman Haik wanted City residents alerted to the fact that the
Council and other City bodies have notices of City events placed in
• the two weekly newspapers who serve the City. Peggy Engholm of the
St. Anthony Bulletin said her paper is to have a city-wide promotion
soon.
The wellhouse location on Silver Lane may not be eligible for Community
Development Grant funding for tennis courts because of its proximity
to Silver Lake Road according to a Hennepin County representative who
visited the area recently, Mr. Fornell reported. He also told of some
resistance to the Emerald Park location because of overdevelopment of
the area and because of the tennis courts being built at Silver Oak
School by the City of New Brighton.
The Acting City Manager also told Doug Jones and Keith Enrooth, who
are residents of the north section of the City that the property on
the corner of Silver Lane and Stinson Boulevard which they proposed be
utilized as recreational area was privately owned.
Councilman Haik said she would like to see the C.D.G. funds used for
improvements around Mirror Lake if they could not be used for tennis
courts.
Mr. Fornell was directed to get a ruling on the eligibility of the
wellhouse location and will also provide the Council with the program
of tree plantings to be carried out around the holding pond and on
29th Avenue N.E.
•
(4)
