Motion carried. <br /> • The Manager reported a traffic count of approximately 11, 000 vehicles <br /> a day had been established for the area of Stinson Boulevard and 37th <br /> Place N.E. Because of the possibility that the elderly housing high- <br /> rise being built at 39th and complaints from those who have difficulty <br /> crossing Stinson at 37th Place have come from Apache management, the <br /> Council felt traffic control in that area should not be planned in a <br /> piecemeal manner but rather worked out with Columbia Heights and Apache <br /> with a system of walking patterns agreed upon first. <br /> Motion by Councilman Haik and seconded by Councilman Stauffer to re- <br /> quest that the City Manager renegotiate with Columbia Heights for long <br /> range planning of the traffic controls to be implemented in the area <br /> north of 37th Avenue on Stinson Boulevard. <br /> Motion carried unanimously. <br /> The North Memorial Medical Service report on nursing service to City <br /> residents was filed. <br /> The Council agreed with Mr. Fornell 's November 4th assessments of <br /> insurance carriers to provide the City with liquor liability insurance. <br /> Motion by Councilman Sundland and seconded by Councilman Sauer to accept <br /> the insurance package offered by North Star Brokers subject to confir- <br /> mation of quoted premiums and coverage. <br /> Motion carried unanimously. <br /> Councilman Sundland said a salary agreement with the City Manager will <br /> probably be presented for Council consideration November 22nd. <br /> A list of long range priorities has been developed by the Community <br /> Services Advisory Council) Councilman Sauer reported. <br /> Mr. Fornell discussed the proposed equipment purchase for 1978 from <br /> the Superintendent of Public Works , saying the specific mechanics for <br /> funding these acquisitions need not be a matter of concern to them at <br /> this time. <br /> Motion by Councilman Stauffer and seconded by. ,Cbuncilman Sundland to <br /> authorize the expenditure of $42, 200 for the purchase of the equipment <br /> required by the Public Works Department. <br /> Motion carried unanimously. <br /> As he had stated in his November 8, 1977 memorandum regarding a possible <br /> grant application for bikeway system improvements, Mr. Fornell again <br /> contended the City could not afford the costs of the yearly striping. <br /> • Councilman Stauffer felt the City should do something concrete to pro- <br /> vide greater safety for residents who either walk or bike to either of <br /> the shopping centers.
