-4-
The Mayor next reported the letter being written to the residents
of Skycroft Drive which will solicit information as to what extent
they will be willing to cooperate with the City in its effort to
cut down the speeding and other problems on Skycroft. When the
response is received, the matter will be placed on the Council agenda.
Chuck Kerl, from the St. Anthony High School , appeared to discuss
with the Council and the City Attorney the options open to the stu-
dent council for conducting a solicitation within the City under
City Ordinance 955 :00. It was agreed the funds could be solicited
as long as orders for the merchandise , rather than direct sale to
the residents, are taken and Mr. Fornell offered to supply a reverse
directory for a telephone solicitation. There was no interest on
the Council 's part to modify the existing ordinance to permit
similar solicitations by bona fide non-profit groups.
Action on the request for a license which will permit the Treasure
Island Amusement Center to take over one of the vacant stores in
Apache Plaza was deferred until the Manager has ascertained the
feelings of the merchants and Apache management regarding such an
operation in view of the opposition demonstrated towards a similar
request not too long ago. Councilman Sundland also expressed con-
cern with the proliferation of game machines in the center.
Motion by Councilman Sundland and seconded by Councilman Letourneau
to grant service station licenses to Sroga' s Standard and St. Anthony
76, as well as a restaurant license to Mei Wah for the property at
2524 Harding Street N.E.
Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Councilman Sundland and seconded by Councilman Letourneau
to approve payment of all Verified Claims listed in the August 28 ,
1979 Agenda.
Motion carried unanimously.
The Manager will report back to Councilman Sundland regarding several
overtime payments to the Fire Department.
Motion by Councilman Sundland and seconded by Councilman Letourneau to
adjourn the meeting at 8: 20 p.m.
Motion carried unanimously.
'0&
Mayor
ATTEST:
City Clerk
