FY-64, W,N.i b,
After noting the Commission's appreciation of the improved signage
proposed for the Sibley building at Apache, the Council deferred
consideration of that signage until it has been formally presented
to the Commission and referred with their recommendations to them
for action.
• — Couhcil members indicated some concern that they might not be adequately
informed regarding the proposed senior housing on Kenzie Terrace to
answer queries of- residents when they- learned the Commission is holding
a public hearing on the development January 15, and the developers
are meeting informally with the residents of that particular area
ouriclil: m tffq—in—,Tanuary. However
they agreed their presence at the informational meeting for the resi-
dents might tend to inhibit a free exchange of ideas between the
developer and the residents. Councilman Sundland complimented the
Commission members on their candid questions to the developer which
had provided greater insight for him personally.
The meeting was recessed at 8 : 30-p.m.- for a presentation by the
Manager of the preliminary plans for and discussion of Council con-
cerns about the development.
When the meeting was reconvened at 8 : 40 p.m. , the matter of the
classification of print shops which would permit such a development
in the Hedlund PUD was reopened. Mr. Hedlund was present and said
if he is not permitted to establish such a facility in the existing
• residence on his property under the PUD, he would at least like to
have such a use considered as a commercial use for one of the three
buildings he proposed to build on the site across from Apache.
Mr. Bjorklund said the Commission was seeking further direction from
the Council as to whether a print shop of limited size might be con-
sidered for classification under permitted commercial uses since
such usage is not addressed in the City Zoning Ordinance. However,
Mr. Berg informed him that "engraving and printing" are classified
as light industrial uses under the existing ordinances and there was
no consensus of the Council to expand that classification to permitted
commercial uses.
Mr. Bjorklund reported the Planning Commission' s reluctance to
recommend vacation of the southern half of Sunset Lane to permit
Bernard Blanske to develop his adjoining property for a mini storage
facility. The Council indicated their agreement with the Commission' s
assessment of the request and concern that if the vacated portion
were blacktopped, the City might not be able to make repairs to the
existing utilities under the site in the following motion:
Motion by Mayor Haik and seconded by Councilman Sauer to deny the
Blanske request and, subsequently, the resolution by which the City
would vacate the southern half of the roughly developed roadway
2known as Sunset Lane, finding as did the Planning Commission that
1) future appropriate access to a public recreation area and the
water retention cell pond as well as proper maintenance, construction,
and reconstruction of utilities in place might be denied; 2) slope
drainage, ground topography and subsoil conditions have not been
addressed in the request; and 3) land use conflicts in the area
may be amplified through the resultant use of the adjoining property
if the proposed vacation should be proposed.
