The <br /> Council found that the diverse uses of the adjoining properties <br /> create no hardship for the property to the east; disallowing the <br /> variances might result in an adjustment of the building size which <br /> could create a hazard for the workers,- and -taking into consideration <br /> the fact that there is alternative parking available in the office <br /> park should more parking for this property be needed. <br /> • _.,Motion carried unanimously. <br /> As he had at the Planning Commission meeting, James Ruvelson, of <br /> Ruvelson and Associates, Inc. , presented the request for a variance <br /> to the City Sign Ordinance which will permit the 503 square feet <br /> of signage proposed as identification of the remodeled Red Owl/Snyder <br /> Drug Store in the St. Anthony Shopping Center. The sign company <br /> representative said this new facility is a prototype of other Red <br /> Owl/Snyder developments in this region and the sign replaces a larger <br /> non-conforming signage on the Red Owl building before it was remodeled. <br /> He also wondered if the fact the building faces the undeveloped but <br /> platted Coolidge Street might provide justification for greater sign <br /> size and bring the proposed signage into closer conformance with the <br /> existing sign ordinance. Walter J. Betts, Red Owl Manager, was pre- <br /> sent, but did not speak. <br /> Motion by Councilman Sundland and seconded by Councilman Ranallo to <br /> grant the variances to the City Sign Ordinance which will permit <br /> 503 square foot signage as proposed for the Red Owl/Snyder Drug Store <br /> at 2550 Highway 88 finding, as did the Planning Commission, the re- <br /> quested signage is only fifty percent of that previously on that <br /> building, which was also not in conformance with the City ordinances <br /> and that the proposed signage compliments- the exterior redesigning <br /> of the building and gives balance to both. <br /> Motion carried unanimously. <br />
