I had hoped to express a concern I have about the
development of the Lobby area and the resulting safety of the space. I'm surd this will do.
The lobby is a required means of egress and care has to be taken to be sure that the building codes are
• followed and that acceptable materials are used. The individual the City intends to retain to develop the
Lobby space should be qualified to work in a building used by the public, should understand the building
codes relative to exit requirements, be should be aware of the flame spread and smoke generdtion
characteristics of the materials to be used, etc.
There are several "interior" designations an individual can use to describe themselves and the service
they provide. In order to call oneself an "Interior Designer" in Minnesota, an individual must be
certified by the State Board. Interior designers take an exam and have required levels of experience.
An "interior decoratbr" on the other hand is not certified, is not required to be tested, and no minimum
standards for competence have been established for them. They typically work with residential clients
and have little, if any, experience with code issues and public safety.
1 Just thought l should caution you.
•
