0
• MEMO
DATE: 01-21-99
TO: Chief Engstrom
FROM: Lt. Ohl
SUBJECT: Y2K Checklist/Cost Estimates
The following is a list of items checked for Y2K sensitivity and compliance. It should be
noted that the costs for compliance are ESTIMATES.
In-house Computer Hardware/Software: Netlink has identified non-compliant
hardware, but failed to note three (3)additional computer stations that are obviously not
2000 capable(probably so old that they felt it was not even necessary to evaluate them).
Netlink also identified software which we currently use that is not 2000 capable. There is
disagreement between Netlink and LEADRS regarding the Microsoft Access 2.0 program
that runs in LEADRS as to its 2000 capability. We are checking further. Cost analysis
• from Netlink is as follows:
$4800—Upgrade software and one non-compliant computer. Additional would
be three computers @ approximately$1500 each.
TOTAL excluding set-up and service of new equipment and compliance is $9300.
Card Reader System—Checkpoint is not compliant. Cost is as follows:
$3,300.00 Software
$1500.00 New computer
$1700.00 Configuration/Training
TOTAL-$6500.00
Hennepin County/Ramsey County Radio/911: These mission-critical areas are out of
our control. It is my understanding that both counties are working with U S West to
insure non-interrupted service.
No anticipated cost.
3270 Emulation Software/Hardware for State Connection: We have to locate the
vendor for our emulation software, and check it's compliance. The BCA indicates that
our Memorex controller and modem(supplied by the State) are both Y2K compliant. I
1
