11
MEMO
DATE: 01-27-99
TO:' Chief Engsttom
FROM: Lt. Ohl
SUBJECT: Y2K Checklist/Cost Estimates Revision
On 01-26-99,Kim Dulz and I, along with Kim Sykes, met with Netlink International
representatives regarding the police department's Y2K compliance. We discussed all
aspects of the police department's hardware, as well as software, and made several
revisions to Nedink's initial cost estimate. As previously stated,Netlink neglected to add
three computers and monitors which belong to the police department which are not Y2K
compliant. Furthermore, due to the fact that we can no longer use WordPerfect,
Microsoft Office 97(including Word)has to be installed on eight of the police
department's computers.
The total cost estimated by Netlink for the police department's computer systems to
become complaint is $11,405.00. This, however, does not include the 3270 emulation
• software, as I have still not received word from IBM as to this particular software's 2000
compliance.
NOTE: LEADRS will not work with Access 95 or 97.
NOTE: Access 2.0 is 2000 compliant as long as the year is entered as four digits.
NOTE: Per Netlink, it is not uncommon for computers purchased from the same
manufacturer to have different manufactured bios cards. This would explain why
Jackie's computer has an AMI bios manufacturer, and the rest have AWARD
manufactured bios'. Netlink indicated that in all other aspects, these computers are
identical. However, per an internal diagnostic check, the AMI bios is not 2000
compliant. Netlink indicated they are aware of no computer manufacturers that are
upgrading hardware at no cost, due to recent purchases of non-compliant hardware.
