1
• with minor issues. In a meeting that the Police Department and I had on
Tuesday, January 26, 1999, with Art Carruth and Brian Ehert, both from
NetLink, Mr. Ehert advised that the minor issues with Windows 95 involve
the use of DOS through this software. He indicated that because DOS is
not compliant, any attempt to use dates and times after 1999 will not work.
He reported that most users of Windows 95 never have a need to use
DOS through this program. Therefore, the indication is that this issue will
not impact Staff at City Hall. If it is determined that a member of Staff does
work in DOS through Windows 95, there is a patch available so that this
software can be used for DOS applications.
3. Audio/Visual Equipment. I have placed calls to Bill Bruce but have not
received a response from him to date. I have sent him a letter requesting
information about any Y2K issues with the equipment that we purchased.
I will send letters to the manufacturers as well.
I don't anticipate any issues with this equipment because it is not date or
time sensitive and does not do computations, but I want written statements
that state this clearly.
I have been contacted by SuperValu, the parent company for Cub Foods, and
CENCO, a manufacturer in the Industrial Park, about our efforts on obtaining
• compliance, the anticipated date of that expected compliance and what plan is in
effect in the event of an emergency. These two companies have received a written
response from me.
Dick Johnson, Jay Hartman and I attended a workshop hosted by NSP in December
whereby they discussed their efforts to insure the continued provision of power.
They reported that their nuclear sites will be completely compliant by the end of 1998
and that gas, coal and electricity supply stations and plants are 65% compliant at this
point. They reported that when their engineers have taken pieces of equipment off
line and tested it, the equipment continued to function but did give off a warning
message or alarm. As a result of their testing done so far, they were very confident
that they will be able to get the needed power to homes and business.
They are anticipating some spotty interruptions in service, but this is a normal
working environment for them. Year-round bad weather provides for this scenario on
a constant basis, so they are used working under these conditions. They feel that if
there are some interruptions in service, they are well prepared to deal with it. As in a
bad weather situations, they have informed their employees that they will have to
postpone vacation and holiday time-off until after January 1, 2000.
1 have several letters on file from vendors and manufacturers about the compliance
status of the equipment that the City has purchased from them as well as copies of
letters Staff has sent requesting compliance information. I can provide copies of
is them at Council's request.
0 Page 2
