That one of the alternatives under study is the expansion of the excavation of Silver Point
Park to the nine properties to the south of the park.
I want you to know that as owner of 2813 Silver Lake Road, I am opposed to this option.
Although not being relocated, as would six of my neighbors, I feel that the loss of
approximately 1/2 of our property which is nearly all of the backyard would force us to move.
Our home is home to four developmentally disabled adults that are to a degree vulnerable in the
community.
. To limit the resident's vulnerability their advocates have developed a site plan that
identifies possible risks on the property and in their neighborhood and steps that are to be taken to
keep the residents safe. This plan identifies the back yard as the only space where the residents
may be for a few minutes with out direct supervision. The front yard being on Silver Lake Road is
too dangerous. The plan also states that they are only to go to the adjoining park with staff.
Therefore by removing the resident's back yard you have greatly limited their independence.
The only drawing of the alternative under study that I have seen is the undated one
prepared by WSB titled Silver Point Park Expansion Options. This drawing indicates that the
unattached garage on our property would also be removed.
If the City of St. Anthony chooses to go forward with this expansion and we have to move
the residents from their home to better meet their needs the value of the property upon its sale will
be greatly reduced from its present value which will limit the affordability of alternative housing
for the four developmentally disabled residents that live there presently.
I only see a great degree of difficulty ahead if the City chooses to expand the excavation
to the south of Silver Point Park and I am opposed to it. Although I am not aware of the other
options involved I am willing to do what ever I can to assist the City in finding a solution. I see
that a tick more to the south from this option being studied is an older commercial area that could
be redeveloped in a creative way to make it the jewel of St. Anthony while accommodating the
City's need to contain rain runoff and also increase property tax revenue.
Sin er,
.
