B. Letter from Henry Hellerman regarding the Hank's Barbershop sign. The Police Chief and I feel that this sign is a traffic hazard and would like it moved or removed. The sign ordinance classifies the sign as non-conforming but grandfathers in per- mission for such signs. However, "freestanding" non-conforming signs are not to be moved without being brought into conformance in this case the sign would have to be removed. I have been trying to work out a solution acceptable to Mr. Hellerman and the Council. Mr. Hellerman's proposal is not consistent with the ordinance but would solve the traffic visibility problem. ACTION: Council C. Letter from HECO regarding funding for an engineering study of 911. I think HECO' s failure to anticipate the need for these funds and make the grant application evidence very poor planning - it's been in existence for several years . However, I feel the 911 system is generally desirable and the expenditure is probably warranted but I doubt , if it will be reimbursed by a "retro- active" grant application. ACTION: Council D. Letter from the Columbia Heights city engineer regarding a crosswalk on Stinson Boulevard. I see no problems but feel there should be no more than two such crossings, otherwise motorists • will ignore all of them. ACTION: Council E. Report from North Memorial Medical Center regarding nursing services. Good service at no cost to the City. ACTION: Informational, file. 10. Reports - None 10A.
