• CITY OF ST. ANTHONY
COUNCIL MINUTES
February 8 , 1977
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Miedtke at 7 : 32 P.M.
Present for roll call: Sundland, Haik, Miedtke , Stauffer and Sauer.
Also present: Jim Fornell, Administrative Assistant
Larry Vickrey, City Attorney
Motion by Councilman Sauer and seconded by Councilman Haik to approve
the minutes for the January 25, 1977 Council meeting.
Motion carried unanimously.
The Council discussed the letter of appreciation from Governor Perpich
for energy conservation initiatives taken by the City. The Mayor
confirmed for Councilman Haik that the City will resume a five day
week on March 1st but that office hours will be from 8 :00 A.M. to
4 : 30 P.M. Mr. Fornell reported that there had been no adverse re-
action to the four day week from residents.
Donald Dick, 3519 Harding Street N.E. , was present and again discussed
his request for a side yard variance which will allow him to convert
the single car garage attached to his home to a double garage. Mr.
Fornell 's January 31st memorandum pointed out the specifics of the
proposal and possible justifications for granting such a variance.
The addition would take two feet from, the required 15 foot total side
yards, leaving 7 feet on one side and six on the other, both of which
would exceed the minimum side yard requirements. The house to the
south is 32 feet from the property line. It was suggested that hard-
ship for Mr. Dick would be established through the fact that he has
to park one vehicle outside during the winter and a single garage does
not afford the room necessary for storing bicycles , etc. The double
garage will also bring the property into conformance with the require-
ment for such in the City ordinance. A survey of the property in
question was attached to the memo.
Mayor Miedtke said he could see no reason to go under the 15 foot side
yard requirement set in the City ordinance.
Motion by Councilman Haik and seconded by Councilman Sundland to grant
approval to Mr. Donald Dick for a two foot side yard variance which
will allow him to convert the single garage on his home at 3519 Harding
Street N.E. to a double garage pursuant to the findings for the hard-
ship established in Jim Fornell 's memorandum of January 31, 1977 , but
with the stipulation that Mr. Dick obtain written agreement with the
proposal from his neighbor to the south.
