POLICE OFFICERS AND FIREFIGHTERS <br /> • The City realizes that no single policy can address all of the circumstances to which <br /> police officers and firefighters are subject. Many of the tasks undertaken by police <br /> officers and firefighters are hazardous to themselves as well as the public and they <br /> should exercise appropriate precaution in such potentially hazardous situations. <br /> Supervisor: <br /> A. To instruct each employee in the safe and proper manner of <br /> performing his/her job. <br /> B. To insure that the needed safety equipment and protective devices <br /> are provided for each job and maintained in good condition. <br /> C. To ensure that all equipment is in good operating condition. <br /> D. To take prompt action on unsafe conditions and work practices. <br /> Department Heads: <br /> A. Department Heads will have the overall responsibility of ensuring <br /> compliance with the City Safety Manual in their own departments. <br /> B. Will ensure that policies and procedures are established in their <br /> • departments that are peculiar to their specific operations. <br /> Safety Committee: <br /> A. To make suggestions or recommendations to City Management or <br /> Department Supervisors <br /> B. Assist Safety Director as required in conducting inspections of City <br /> Departments to monitor compliance with safety standards. <br /> C. To review accidents both personal and automotive each month and <br /> make suggestions to management regarding corrective or possible <br /> disciplinary actions. <br /> D. To obtain safety films and aids for safety meetings for employees. <br /> E. To organize departmental participation in First Aid Courses. <br /> F.
