-4-
Woodington: `!es, there are handrails in bathrooms, and a signal system if any
of the residents become ill.
• Mr. Carlson: Meal service available?
Woodington: Yes, there will be a dining room, and one or two meals a day may
be served. Residents would be required to eat at least one meal in the
dining room.
Carlson: These dining room facilities would be strictly for residents?
Woodington: Yes
Public hearing was closed.
Mr. Parrill: I have been on the Planning Board for three years and we have
heard a number of proposals for this site. It is my opinion the Planning Board
has done a reasonable job in weeding out the proposals which would be
objectionable to that area.
Mr. Garloon asked the resident: "Are you mainly opposed to the height of the
building"?
Audience replied generally - yes.
Mr. Lavicky staffed: "I am against the height, the low income residents this
would at.-act, and the future development of that area."
• Mr. Carlsoxi s>>ated his personal feeling was than Elie area is not conducive to
R-2 development. "I wouldn't build a house on Silver Lake Road across from
Apache."
Mrs. McGinn: I am firmly in favor of residential development for that area,
but I'm.al18W in favor of 236 housing.
Mr. Letourneau: This project is one of the better projects we have seen. I
like the idea of this plan.
Mr. Kronk: I am in favor of the plan, however, I would want certain restrict-
ions placed on the Conditional Use Permit.
Bratlend: "In regard to the integrity of the proposal, most of the requirements
of the Metro Council for a retirement home of this nature makes one almost
focus in on this location. There are churches, medical facilities, shopping
areas, all the things that are drawn up as criteria for a nursing home. Based
on that, th-- only drawback is that it is five stories high which is an economic
fact of life."
Mr. Ondrey: I have avoided making comment at this meeting, because I have been
in favor of this proposal all along. I would therefore make the following
motion:
Motion by Ondrey, seconded by Parrill that the Planning Board go on record as
• recommending to the Council the adoption of a C.U.P. to allow the erection of
this retirement home in either Plan A or Plsn B, and to include in the motion
that the Planning board states its preference -or Plan A. The entire project
is to be completed in accordance to the requirements of Council subject to geol-
ogical survey.
l
I
