w,.
CITY OF ST. ANTHONY
PLANNING BOARD MINUTES
July 15, 1975
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Letourneau at 7:35 P.M.
The following were present for roll call: Marks, Letourneau, Cowan, Hiebel,
Bowerman and R,ymarchick.
Also present: Harry Lekson
Absent: Johnson
The following corrections were made to the Board minutes of June 17, 1975:
Page 2, para 2: Flea Market -sign variance should be identified
under section 430.45 rather than 430.25•
Motion by Mr. Letourneau and seconded by Mr. Marks to approve the minutes as
corrected.
Motion carried.
Mr. Tom Healy, 2210 American National Bank, St. Paul, was present to make the request
from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company that they be allowed to erect a 2 x 5 ft.
monumental sign, as per their drawing, which would identify their store at 4020
Silver Lake Road. The attorney indicated Goodyear felt the sign would be a "safety
factor" since it would cut down on U-turns made by customers who now recognize the
business too late to anticipate a legal turn off Silver Lake Road. He also answered
Mr. Bowerman's question about lighting by saying that the sign would be back-lit on
both sides.
Mr. Cowan pointed out that the existing signs on the Goodyear Store must have used up
all the signage which was allowed by ordinance for a building that size and asked Mr.
Healy whether Goodyear intended removing those signs and substituting the monumental
sign they were now requesting.
Mr. Rymarchick also felt there should have been some indication of where the requested
sign was to be placed as well as its exact elevation citing the placement of the
Herfurth Realty Sign on a berm which he felt might not have been in conformance with
the intention of the Council when they granted a sign variance for that sign.
Motion by Mr. Cowan and seconded by Mr. Marks to table action on the Goodyear request
for a sign variance to allow time to ascertain what disposition Goodyear planned for
the existing signs on their building.
Before voting on the motion Mr. Marks withdrew his second which was then made by
Mr. Hiebel.
Voting on the motion:
Aye: Cowan,Hiebel, Rymarchick and Bowerman
Nay: Letourneau and Marks
\Motion carried.
