Planning Commission Meeting Minutes <br /> May 15, 2001 <br /> • Page 2 <br /> 1 8.1 Report of Sign Subcommittee- City Monument Sign Recommendation. <br /> 2 Assistant City Manager Sue Henry explained that the Planning Committee met with the City <br /> 3 Council and discussed the City Monument sign. The consensus was to go ahead with the city <br /> 4 electronic monument sign,justifying public purpose as the reason. Ms. Henry indicated that the <br /> 5 decision requires a city ordinance change. <br /> 6 Ms. Henry continued that the public hearing on the ordinance would take place on June 19, 2001, <br /> 7 if the Planning Commission agreed to pursue the ordinance change. Ms. Henry added that the <br /> 8 Council would then have three hearings on the case on June 26,July 10, and July 24, 2001. <br /> 9 Ms. Henry reviewed the different locations that have been suggested for sign placement. <br /> 10 Vice Chair Stille explained that they would have their own public meeting on June 19`h, <br /> 11 indicating that the Commission has time to further discuss the recommendation before it is due to <br /> 12 go before the Council. <br /> 13 Commissioner Tillmann stated she would like to review this sign in relation to the other signs in <br /> 14 town, and establish the way that electronic signs will be treated in other areas of the City of St. <br /> 15 Anthony. <br /> •6 Vice Chair Stille stated that the Commission needed to establish where these signs for public <br /> 17 information should be allowed. He mentioned recreational property, commercial property, or <br /> 18 city-owned property, and asked for input from the Commissioners. <br /> 19 Commissioner Hanson noted that the Stonehouse sign is not on property owned by the City of St. <br /> 20 Anthony. He stated he feels that the new City sign should be on recreational land. <br /> 21 Commissioner Thomas thought public property would be the best option for sign placement. He <br /> 22 asked the Commission if they would want to allow government agencies, or the school to have a <br /> 23 proliferation on these kinds of signs. <br /> 24 Vice Chair Stille indicated that all of these points have been discussed at the subcommittee <br /> 25 meetings. He requested a motion with regard to electronic signs for public purposes. Then <br /> 26 suggested the subcommittee set a date for a meeting to further discuss the ideas mentioned. <br /> 27 Commissioner Thomas asked if there would be some type of consensus at the public hearings. <br /> 28 Commissioner Tillmann stated that she was in favor of wording the ordinance with "City <br /> 29 property". Vice Chair Stille agreed. <br /> Commissioner Tillmann asked if the Council would be approving the funding to hire a designer <br /> to design the sign at the next City Council meeting. <br /> 32 Ms. Henry stated that the purpose of meeting with the Council is to brief them on what is <br /> 33 happening with the City Monument Sign.
