Subd. 22. Pylon Sign. Any sign which is freestanding by virtue of being structurally <br /> independent of any structure or object other than uprights, braces or poles, without <br /> guywires or pedestal. <br /> Subd. 23. Projecting Sign. A sign other than a wall sign, which is affixed to a building <br /> and projects outward more than 15 inches from the building wall or structure. <br /> Subd. 24. Public Service Sign. Any sign primarily intended to promote items of general <br /> interest to the community. <br /> Subd. 25. Real Estate Sign. A sign pertaining to the sale, lease or rental of the real estate <br /> upon which it is located. <br /> Subd. 26. Roof Line. The uppermost line of the roof of a building, or in the case of an <br /> extended facade, the uppermost height of the facade. <br /> Subd. 27. Roof Sign. A sign erected upon the roof or parapet of a building, the entire <br /> face of which is situated above the roof level of the building to which it is attached, and <br /> which is wholly or partially supported by the building. <br /> Subd. 28. ShoppingCenter. Any shopping center as defined in Section 1635.05, <br /> Subd. 8. <br /> Subd. 29. S.�. Any structure, device, advertisement or visual representation intended to <br /> visually advertise, identify or communicate information, or to visually attract the <br /> attention of the public for any purpose unless located within a building and not visible <br /> from the exterior of the building. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, the <br /> term includes any symbols, letters, figures, illustrations or forms painted, or otherwise <br /> affixed to a building or structure, any beacon or search light intended to attract the <br /> attention of the public for any purpose, and any structure or device the prime purpose of <br /> which is to border, illuminate, animate or project a visual representation. Notwithstanding <br /> the foregoing, the term sign shall not include official notices issued by any court or <br /> governmental body, notices posed by a public official in the performance of official <br /> duties, or traffic control signs established pursuant to governmental authority. <br /> Subd. 30. Sign Surface Area. The area in square feet of the smallest rectangular figure <br /> which circumscribes the area enclosed by the actual copy of a sign including both sides <br /> of a sign with copy on both sides and including border and trim of the sign. The <br /> supports, uprights or structures in which any sign is supported will not be included in <br /> determining the sign area. <br /> Subd. 31. Street. A public highway, road, alley or thoroughfare. <br /> Subd. 32. Strip Mall. Any group of four or more occupant retail or service <br /> establishments on one or more contiguous tracts of land in single ownership, <br /> compromising 7,500 to 75,000 square feet of floor area with parking provided on the tract <br />_. or tracts of land for use in common by patrons. <br /> 3 <br />
