City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br />September 8, 2009 <br />Page 5 <br />1 conference in Lafayette, Louisiana on September 29, 2009. The City of Lafayette has <br />2 implemented municipal owned fiber to home infrastructure, which is an option that has been <br />3 discussed for the City of St. Anthony in the future. <br />4 <br />5 Mayor Faust reported on his attendance at the following: <br />6 ■ August 26, 2009 League of Minnesota Cities Fiscal Futures Policy meeting. <br />7 ■ August 27, 2009 wine tasting put on by Michael Mondavi at the liquor store on the south <br />8 end of the City. Mr. Mondavi was directed to the City of St. Anthony by a wholesaler as <br />9 an example of how a municipal operation should run. Mr. Mondavi conducted a white <br />10 glove check when he came into the store and has stated the operation is the best he has <br />11 seen in his travels. Mayor Faust requested City Manager Morrison to commend staff on <br />12 the well -run organization. <br />13 ■ September 1, 2009 Military Order of Purple Heart award presentation to Officer Huddle <br />14 for his Swat Team action last December. <br />15 ■ September 8, 2009 Middle Mississippi Watershed Management Organization meeting. <br />16 ■ September 8, 2009 Ribbon Cutting for the Water Re -Use Facility. <br />17 <br />18 VIII. COMMUNITY FORUM. <br />19 <br />20 Mayor Faust invited residents to come forward at this time and address the Council on items that <br />21 are not on the regular agenda. <br />22 <br />23 Hearing none, Mayor Faust moved forward with the agenda. <br />24 <br />25 IX. INFORMATION AND ANNOUNCEMENTS. <br />26 <br />27 Mayor Faust announced that City Manager Morrison received a letter of congratulations from the <br />28 International Association of City Managers for his 25 years in the business. <br />29 <br />30 Councilmember Stille announced that Silverwood Park is open. The grand opening is scheduled <br />31 for September 26, 2009 with a ribbon cutting at 11:00 a.m. He encouraged St. Anthony residents <br />32 to keep in mind that the pavilion is booking up into next summer for major events. <br />33 <br />34 Councilmember Thuesen announced he will not be running in the upcoming City Council <br />35 election due to health reasons associated with a brain tumor that was diagnosed 13 months ago. <br />36 His tumor has come back and he will be taking time off to go through a second brain surgery and <br />37 other treatment. He has served on the City Council for almost 12 years. Hopefully things will go <br />38 well and he will be able to finish out his term in the way he would like. He stated it has been an <br />39 incredible privilege to serve the community. The City of St. Anthony has the best staff and City <br />40 Council in the Twin Cities. <br />41 <br />42 X.
