ANTHONY <br />CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING MINUTES <br />April 24, 2007 <br />CALL TO ORDER. <br />Mayor Faust called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. <br />9 PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE. <br />10 Mayor Faust invited the Council and audience to join him in the Pledge of Allegiance. <br />11 <br />12 <br />ROLL CALL. <br />13 <br />Present: <br />Mayor Faust; Council Members Gray, Stille, and Thuesen <br />14 <br />Absent: <br />Councilmember Horst <br />15 <br />Also Present: <br />City Manager Mike Morrison, Finance Director Roger Larson <br />16 <br />17 <br />CONSIDERATION, <br />DISCUSSION, AND POSSIBLE ACTION ON ALL OF THE FOLLOWING <br />18 <br />ITEMS. <br />19 <br />20 I. APPROVAL OF APRIL 10, 2007 CITY COUNCIL MEETING AGENDA <br />21 <br />22 Motion by Councilmember Thuesen, seconded by Councilmember Gray, to approve the City <br />23 Council meeting agenda of April 24, 2007. <br />24 <br />25 Motion carried unanimously <br />26 <br />27 11. PROCLAMATIONS AND RECOGNITIONS. <br />28 <br />29 A. Junior Achievement Award Presentation to Mrs. Second Grade Class. <br />30 <br />31 City Manager Morrison explained that Junior Achievement is the world's largest organization <br />32 dedicated to educating students in grades K -12. He stated Junior Achievement programs help <br />33 prepare young people for the real world by showing them how to generate wealth and effectively <br />34 manage it, how to create jobs which make their communities more robust, and how to apply <br />35 entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace. He commented students put these lessons into action, <br />36 and learn the value of contributing to their communities. City Manager Morrison reported Junior <br />37 Achievement's worldwide purpose is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global <br />38 economy. <br />39 <br />40 City Manager Morrison commented they completed five projects: Week one was on how a <br />41 community works where they identified various jobs in the community; the second week they <br />42 ran a company called Sweet O donuts and filled the roles of workers; the third week they talked <br />43 about the role of government and taxes; on week four they voted for a mayor; and, on week five <br />44 they studied how money moves from a bank to the different businesses. <br />45 <br />46 City Manager Morrison called each student to the front where they were presented with a <br />47 Certificate of Achievement from Mayor Faust. <br />W, <br />
