Fire Prevention and Education <br />By Firefighter Mattie Jaros <br />Fire Prevention and Education is a core function in the fire service. <br />These programs are in place to help decrease fire related injuries and <br />deaths. Statistics show that fire related deaths over the years continue to <br />steadily decline. This is due to a multitude of factors; some of the main <br />influences are the fire prevention and education programs implemented <br />by fire departments. In 2016, the St. Anthony Fire Department logged over 490 hours of public <br />education and reached around 2,220 adults and children with our safety messages. <br />2016 was definitely a busy year. We met with each Principal at St. Charles and Wilshire Park <br />Elementary schools to expand fire prevention and education in the schools of our community <br />and work with the younger generations. Not only did we have to develop an education plan, <br />we had to gear those plans towards the age and developmental levels of each class. Our main <br />objective was to develop a learning plan that would piggyback what the classes learned the <br />previous year. <br />This past year we visited many preschool classes and hosted tours at our fire station. Our <br />primary goal for the younger audience is to connect with them as their friend. If we were to
