2015 Annual Report • Fire Department • St. Anthony Village, Minnesota

17 | Page

V. Fire Code
By Fire Marshal Chris Fuller
PUBLIC EDUCATION
The Fire Marshal is responsible for the Fire Prevention and Public Education programs. These
programs consist of community fire prevention education, fire prevention education in the
schools, fire prevention education for businesses, the fire safety poster contest and fire station
tours, among other items.

Fire Prevention Week allows us the opportunity to have personal interaction with 3rd grade
students at Wilshire Park Elementary and St. Charles Borromeo. All 3rd graders are given a
safety presentation in the North Suburban Fire Safety House. Along with that training we also
hold our Fire Department Open House on a Saturday. This year we had approximately 700 (500
in 2014 and 300 in 2013) people attend and receive safety messages. This gives our personnel a
great opportunity to answer direct questions as well as gaining the valuable experience of
interacting directly with the public.
We also run the Fire Safety Poster Contest with all the 4th and 5th graders, visit all the
Kindergarten classes and read a book with a fire safety message, and talk to the 1st graders
about escape planning for the home.

A total of 1070 adults and children received a public education message in 2012.
A total of 940 adults and children received a public education message in 2013.
A total of 1843 adults and children received a public education message in 2014.
A total of 1653 adults and children received a public education message in 2015.
A total of 429 staff hours are documented for Public Education. 147 of that was
Open House.
A total of 271 staff hours are documented for Public Relations. This includes
Santa on the Fire Truck and Natl. Nite to Unite.
