2015 Annual Report • Fire Department • St. Anthony Village, Minnesota <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />18 | Page <br /> <br />Other safety talks were given when requested on basic fire safety, severe weather, fire <br />extinguishers, CPR and First Aid, and some miscellaneous topics. <br />Fire Marshal Chris Fuller and Firefighter Mattie Jaros are members of The Minnesota Fire and <br />Injury Prevention Group. This group is made up of fire service professionals that meet <br />quarterly to talk about public education issues. <br />FIRE CODE ACTIVITIES <br />Training <br />All full-time fire department staff have state Fire Inspector I certification. The staff gets <br />continuing education throughout the year provided by local & state assistance. With the <br />adoption of the new code, classes will be coming out soon provided by the State Fire Marshal’s <br />office. <br />Construction plans are reviewed to ensure compliance with state and national codes in the area <br />of site plans, fire alarm systems, fire sprinkler systems, egress plans, hazardous operations, <br />construction and operational plans. Last year there were no significant projects – mostly <br />remodels. <br /> <br />Inspections of buildings and facilities are conducted to ensure compliance with state and <br />national codes and standards. These inspections include general fire prevention inspections and <br />inspections of specific systems and services. The specific inspections involve fire protection <br />systems including restaurant hood extinguishing systems, fire alarm systems and fire sprinkler <br />systems. <br /> <br />A new plan was implemented in 2014 for inspections of general businesses. All businesses will <br />be inspected every 2 years with the exception of apartment buildings which are done every <br />year.
