Currently Lieutenant <br />Joe Basara is a state certified inspector and Firefighter Jaros is beginning the training. Myself <br />and several others have taken classes but have not done the state certification track. <br />In 2015 we had 5 incidents involving fire that resulted in at least $1,000 in damage. <br /> <br />Incident Damage <br />House Fire $114,335 building, $50,000 contents <br />Cause determined to be electrical fixture in ceiling of bathroom – electrical shorting. <br /> <br />Vehicle Fire $20,000 <br />Cause undetermined – presumed electrical. Arson ruled out. Vehicle a total loss. <br /> <br />Kitchen Fire $17,000 appliance, carpeting, finishes <br />Cause accidental – ream of paper left on stove that was on. Sprinkler extinguished fire. <br /> <br />Trash Can Fire $35,000 Clean up and finish work due to smoke damage <br />Cause carelessly discarded matches/wick in garbage can by juvenile. <br /> <br />Outside Fire $14,500 Total loss on pool filter system, riding lawn <br />mower, etc. <br />Cause electrical short in operating pool pump. Fire caused damage to nearby shed and <br />riding lawn mower. <br /> <br />There were several smaller incidents where damage was minor and primarily cosmetic in <br />nature. Inattentive cooking is the cause in the majority of these. There was also a minor deck <br />fire in an apartment building. <br />The 2015 Fires in MN report from the State Fire Marshal Office is not yet out. In 2014 the <br />average fire loss statewide was $41,359 per 1000 people. For the City of St. Anthony that would <br />be ~8300 population or expected loss of 8.3 X $41,350 = $343,280. Our actual loss for 2015 is <br />about $255,000 or about 74% of the expected average loss based on population using 2014 state <br />numbers.
