2015 Annual Report • Police Department • St. Anthony Village, Minnesota <br /> <br /> <br />27 | Page <br /> <br />promoting interest in the Police Department's Citizen Academy, and fostering a closer and <br />beneficial relationship between residents in the apartment complex, the community at large, <br />and the Police Department. <br /> <br />Officer Jim South was invited to the Landings Apartment <br />complex. He was asked to speak to a group of residents about <br />starting an “apartment watch” group. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Chief John Ohl, Capt. Dominic Cotroneo, Sgt. Jeff Spiess, <br />Officers Mark Dokken, Mike Huddle, Elliot Erdman, Jeronimo <br />Yanez and CSO Ismail Turay welcomed children and their <br />families to the SAPD to participate in the “Shop with a Cop” <br />program. The participants were chosen by the school district. <br />The families were treated to a tour of the police department. <br />Each child was provided with a Wal Mart gift card to purchase <br />Christmas gifts for their family. <br /> <br />Throughout the year our crime prevention officer’s create and submit informative articles that <br />appear in our community newsletter. Sgt. Spiess, Officer Sunde and Officer South continued <br />volunteering with the Police Mentoring Program, offered by Century College. Our Officers <br />logged countless “Stop and Talk” COP details. Our Patrol Officers informally participated in an <br />“I Got Caught” bicycle safety initiative that was sponsored by Dairy Queen. DQ provided <br />coupons for free ice creams cones to SAPD Officers. Officers handed out these coupons to <br />children “Caught” using safety equipment while riding bicycles, scooters, skate boards and <br />other similar equipment. Our Reserve Officers and Patrol Officers attended home football <br />games at SAHS, as well as a variety of school events and after school programs. <br /> <br />Without an engaged police department, partnering with engaged community stakeholders, we <br />would not have the livable, walkable, Village we all enjoy. It takes community effort to sustain <br />a community! In closing, I would like to express my appreciation to the communities we serve <br />for their continued support and trust.
