2015 Annual Report • Public Works Department • St. Anthony Village, Minnesota

12

Highway Safety Improvement Program Grant
The city received a Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) grant to construct sidewalks
and upgrade eight traffic signals within the community. The construction of a sidewalk along
the south side of 37th Avenue between Highcrest Road and Stinson Boulevard has been a
community goal to provide safer access to Wilshire Park Elementary School; to provide
residents with an ability to get from residential areas safely to local restaurants, parks, and
commercial nodes; and to provide safer and easier access to Metro Transit bus stops.

Along with the construction of the sidewalks, the city is upgrading eight traffic signals to
provide for safer pedestrian crossing and be in conformance with the American with Disabilities
Act. This includes upgrading pedestrian ramps, providing countdown timers, providing audio
queues for the visually impaired and relocating push buttons to accessible locations. The
design and ROW work was undertaken in 2015 and construction is anticipated in 2016.
