Summary and Looking Ahead
LIQUOR OPERATION GOAL
SETTING
· Short term business planning
· Long term business planning
· Implement new credit card service provider
to include reduced rates, PCI security and
compliance, and potentially “Apple Pay”
abilities.
LEGISLATIVE ISSUES
· Sunday Sales
· Wine in Grocery Stores
FACILITIES ASSESSMENT
· Assess the infrastructure of the buildings
and the need for repairs or replacement
items
· Assess maintenance needs
2014 IN REVIEW
2014 brought many challenges to our operation. Expansion of a “Big Box” national liquor store chain
into our market affected our sales and therefore our profi ts. Additionally, the closing of Wal-Mart
at Silver Lake Village has impacted the sales at our store located in the shopping center. We expect
challenges to continue in 2015. Legislation to allow wine in grocery stores and Sunday sales of alcohol
will be debated at the Capital again this year. Both pieces of legislation could have a negative impact on
our liquor operations sales and profi ts.
Our staff is adapting to the “new normal” of our business by goal setting and planning, monitoring
legislation, attending conferences and meetings with other Municipal liquor stores, and maintaining
our vision to provide a unique retail environment that is based on excellent customer service, product
selection, competitive pricing while providing safe, bright and clean stores that drive long term
customer loyalty.
