2016 Annual Report • Administration • St. Anthony Village, Minnesota

7

GREENSTEP CITIES STEP 4
In June, the City received Step 4 recognition in the Minnesota
GreenStep Cities program, one of only six cities to achieve this
level of recognition. GreenStep Cities is a voluntary challenge,
assistance and recognition program to help cities achieve their
sustainability goals. St. Anthony has been an active participant in
the GreenStep program for many years, and most recently was
awarded Step 4 status after reporting on current conditions and
establishing benchmarking metrics to form a baseline for future
sustainability goals.

SUSTAINABLE TOUR MAP
St. Anthony has developed a dynamic, accessible online city-wide
Sustainability Tour story map in 2016 to showcase the City’s tremendous
sustainability accomplishments. This highly visual map incorporates web-
based mapping technology and allows residents and interested parties to
locate and learn about fifteen impressive sustainability projects within the
City. The story map is intended to be a living tool that can be updated as
more projects are completed and to track progress toward sustainability
goals. The map can be viewed here: http://datalink.wsbeng.com/SAVTour/

COMMUNITY SOLAR
In 2016, the City Council voted for the City to subscribe to a community
solar garden. Under this arrangement, the city “subscribes” to a portion of the energy produced
by a solar array that is owned and maintained by a third party. The city will then receive credit
on its electricity bill from Xcel Energy for the production of solar energy and in turn make
subscription payments to the community solar garden developer. 25 percent of energy use from
city facilities will come from solar.
