2016 Annual Report • Administration • St. Anthony Village, Minnesota

8

TECHNICAL ADVISORY PANEL FROM URBAN LAND INSTITUTE (ULI)
The triangle of land situated between Lowry Ave, Kenzie
Terrace and New Brighton Blvd, known as the Gateway South
District, is a priority area of study for redevelopment. In April,
St. Anthony received technical assistance from a panel of
experts affiliated with the Urban Land Institute regarding the
challenges and opportunities associated with development in
this area of the City. The TAP panel convened with city staff
and elected and appointed officials to discuss the possibilities
for the Gateway South District. Key suggestions offered by the
TAP panel included creating a strong, community- shared
vision for the area, focusing on placemaking details, and
attracting a retail anchor to catalyze redevelopment.

USGBC ADVANCE WORKSHOP
On June 30, a group of City leaders participated in a PLANBuilder
workshop facilitated by the U.S. Green Building Council
Minnesota. The purpose of the workshop was to collaboratively
develop key sustainability goals that will guide and support the
comprehensive plan process. Some themes that emerged from this
goal-setting workshop include the incorporation of transit and
alternative modes into the transportation plan, investments in
sustainable landscapes and infrastructure practices, setting
attainable energy reduction goals, and equity in sustainability
initiatives. The comprehensive plan Steering Committee and city
staff will look to the goal framework developed in the workshop to
structure future discussions of sustainability in the comprehensive plan.
