2016 Annual Report • Administration • St. Anthony Village, Minnesota

45

In 2016, the Commission and Board of Directors met on a bi-monthly basis along with
numerous work sessions and special meetings. The Commission focused on implementing the
new cable television franchise with CenturyLink. In addition, although the formal franchise
renewal process with Comcast continued, the company indicated in February that it was
interested in returning to informal franchise negotiations, and those began in earnest in late
spring and early summer. Whether a hearing before an administrative law judge is held will
depend on the results of those negotiations, which were continuing at the end of 2016.
Meanwhile, in anticipation of a new franchise with Comcast that will result in less financial
support, the NSAC Board of Directors initiated a strategic planning process for CTV North
Suburbs that will continue in 2017.

Sister Cities
During 2016, the St. Anthony Sister City Association continued
organizational activities related to the premier of The Lost Melody, a
narrated orchestral piece for children being written by Finnish composer
Olli Kortekangas. The St. Anthony Civic Orchestra will premier this
piece on November 5, 2017, in a community celebration that will also feature St. Anthony
Vil lage High School musicians. A main aim of the project is to create a musical legacy for the
citizens of St. Anthony Village.

Metro I-Net
City of St. Anthony is part of a technology consortium for our information technology (IT)
services.
