SOCIAL MEDIA POLICY <br />DRAFT -April 2, 2013 <br />SECTION 1 <br />POLICY STATEMENT <br />1.1 It is the City of St. Anthony's objective to establish standards for appropriate <br />Social Media usage and to protect the City's IT system from risk such as <br />business interruption, unauthorized or inappropriate IT usage, and security <br />breaches. <br />1.2 The IT system includes, but is not limited to, computers, printers, iPads, tablets, <br />copiers, facsimile machines, software, telephones, cell phones (text messages, <br />instant messages, or any other means of communication through the cell <br />phone), cameras, e-mail, voice mail, internet access and others. <br />SECTION 2 <br />APPLICATION <br />2.1 The Social Media Policy shall apply to all employees, including <br />those represented by a bargaining unit, full -time, part-time, seasonal, <br />contractors, volunteers, and paid -on -call firefighters who have access or use the <br />City of St. Anthony IT system. <br />2.2 The misuse of City property and /or equipment or any violation of the <br />Social Media Policy may result in disciplinary action per City's Employee <br />Resource Guide or through other rules and laws. If applicable, violations may <br />also be referred for criminal prosecution. <br />2.3 To the extent permitted by law, the Social Media policy will also apply to elected <br />officials and members of city commissions and boards. <br />SECTION 3 <br />SOCIAL MEDIA POLICY <br />3.1 Social media technologies offer continually evolving opportunities to enhance <br />public outreach, resident and visitor interaction, and employee productivity for <br />the City of St. Anthony. The City of St. Anthony will determine, at its discretion, <br />how its web -based social media resources will be designed, implemented and <br />managed as part of its overall communications strategy.
