V. City Hall
2014 Annual Report · Administration · St. Anthony Village, Minnesota
23
Historical Society
To collect, preserve, and disseminate historical knowledge about the
City of St. Anthony Village
A few years ago, with a local writer, Gail D. Olson, coupled with a
St. Anthony resident, Tom Heller, published “A Village in the City”
which has sold nearly all the 1000 books that were printed. The
Historical Society’s second book “World War II Courage and Survival”
entails stories from some local people you may recognize that had
stories to share from World War II.
In 2014, the Historical Society submitted and is actively pursuing
a grant application project to the Minnesota Historical & Cultural
Heritage Grants program to help incorporate the right system for
archiving the items the historical society currently houses.
CTV
CTV is a non-profi t organization operated by the North Suburban
Access Corporation (NSAC). The ten commission members
represent the cities of Arden Hills, Falcon Heights, Lauderdale, Little
Canada, Mounds View, New Brighton, North Oaks, Roseville, St.
Anthony and Shoreview. In 2015, Shoreview will no longer be a
member. The North Suburban Cable Commission (NSCC) is a joint
powers venture with the same cities. We have come together to
offer all our residents a station with programming created by the
community, for the community.
The Commission administers and enforces the franchise agreement with the cable company and its
successors; stewards resources, including franchise fees from member cities, scholarship funds from
the cable company and other income and assets acquired by contract with the cable company or others;
provides a means of public access to cable television; and informs member cities and the public of
developing technology and issues related to cable communications.
City of St. Anthony appoints a member of the City Council to represent St. Anthony at all Commission
meetings and functions. The City representative is a Commissioner on the NSCC and a Director on the
NSAC. The City Manager also serves on the Telecommunications Advisory Committee (TAC) along with
other appointed staff from the ten commission cities.
In 2014, the Commission met on a monthly basis along with numerous commission work sessions and
special meetings. A signifi cant amount of time was spent on the expiring franchise agreement renewal
with Comcast. Two major highlights of the year included recommending the extension of the current
franchise with Comcast for two years and the transfer from Comcast to GreatLand Connections Inc.
