Finance Activity Unique to 2014 <br />COMPENSATION ANALYSIS / UNION NEGOTIATIONS <br />Finance staff , contracted HR and the City Manager work together develop a compensation analysis to be used as an <br />aid in union negotiations. The steps taken in this process included: <br /> · Reviewing LMC Salary and Benefi ts <br />survey to help determine a group of <br />cities with similar attributes <br /> · Discussions with unions to agree <br />upon peer group members and total <br />compensation approach <br /> · Contacting cities within peer group <br />to gain current contact information <br /> ·Defi ning common elements of <br />compensation across the peer group <br /> · Calculating the value of <br />compensation elements on an <br />annualized basis <br /> · Totaling the value common <br />compensation elements to determine <br />total compensation by city <br /> · Sorting the total compensation <br />results to produce a peer group <br />ranking <br />One of the take a ways from this exercise was police and public works union compensation was competitive <br />within each units peer group. Additionally the summarized information helped in designing a union off er that was <br />fair in overall amount while narrowing areas of market discrepancies where possible.
