City Council Regular Meeting Minutes January 23, 2018 Page 3 City Manager Casey announced on January 24, 2018, Continental will be hosting an open house 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the New Brighton Community Center. No application has yet been received by 2 the City. Once the application is received and is complete the process will be followed again and 3 it will be posted on the City’s website. The address of the New Brighton Community Center can 4 be found on the website. 5 6 Councilmember Jenson reported on January 11-12, 2018, he attended the annual strategic 7 planning meeting. 8 9 Councilmember Stille stated he also attended the strategic planning/goal setting meeting on 10 January 11-12, 2018, and this will be presented to the community in the coming weeks. 11 12 Councilmember Gray stated he also attended the goal setting session, noting there was an article 13 in the Star Tribune the next day where a reporter and a few residents were present. The focus of 14 the article was on everything but what was accomplished. There were people present that wanted 15 to see the goal setting process. 16 17 Councilmember Randle stated he also attended the goal setting session, which gave him an 18 inside look on how the City plans for the next year. 19 20 Mayor Faust stated he was also at that meeting. 21 22 VIII. COMMUNITY FORUM. 23 24 Ms. Nancy Robinett, 3408 31st Avenue NE, stated she was the community member who asked 25 that the goal setting session be held in St. Anthony as it would be more available for the 26 residents. She stated there is a Minnesota law that states a public body’s meetings should be held 27 within their own jurisdictions. Mr. Casey stated he would pass that onto the Council but she did 28 not receive a response to her request. The City Attorney did not agree with Ms. Robinett’s 29 understanding of the law. Ms. Robinett stated it was a great planning session, she learned a lot, 30 but still wished the planning session had been held in St. Anthony. She stated she was not 31 allowed to speak, noting the reporter researched the $10,000 cost. She believed it was more 32 difficult for residents to attend a meeting not held within St. Anthony. There were 31 invited 33 attendees which could have been held in St. Anthony. 34 35 IX. INFORMATION AND ANNOUNCEMENTS – NONE. 36 37 X.
