City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br />January 23, 2018 <br />Page 3 <br />1 City Manager Casey announced on January 24, 2018, Continental will be hosting an open house <br />2 at 6:30 p.m. at the New Brighton Community Center. No application has yet been received by <br />3 the City. Once the application is received and is complete the process will be followed again and <br />4 it will be posted on the City's website. The address of the New Brighton Community Center can <br />5 be found on the website. <br />6 <br />7 Councilmember Jenson reported on January 11 -12, 2018, he attended the annual strategic <br />8 planning meeting. <br />9 <br />10 Councilmember Stille stated he also attended the strategic planning/goal setting meeting on <br />1 I January 11 -12, 2018, and this will be presented to the community in the coming weeks. <br />12 <br />13 Councilmember Gray stated he also attended the goal setting session, noting there was an article <br />14 in the Star Tribune the next day where a reporter and a few residents were present. The focus of <br />15 the article was on everything but what was accomplished. There were people present that wanted <br />16 to see the goal setting process. <br />17 <br />18 Councilmember Randle stated he also attended the goal setting session, which gave him an <br />19 inside look on how the City plans for the next year. <br />20 <br />21 Mayor Faust stated he was also at that meeting. <br />22 <br />23 VIII. She stated there is a Minnesota law that states a public body's meetings should be held <br />within their own jurisdictions. Mr. Casey stated he would pass that onto the Council but she did <br />not receive a response to her request. The City Attorney did not agree with Ms. Robinett's <br />understanding of the law. Ms. Robinett stated it was a great planning session, she learned a lot, <br />but still wished the planning session had been held in St. Anthony. She stated she was not <br />allowed to speak, noting the reporter researched the $10,000 cost. She believed it was more <br />difficult for residents to attend a meeting not held within St. Anthony. There were 31 invited <br />attendees which could have been held in St. Anthony. <br />IX. INFORMATION AND ANNOUNCEMENTS — NONE. <br />X.
