2017 Annual Report • Fire Department • St. Anthony Village, Minnesota

27 | Page

For group tours of preschoolers and those in daycare settings, we ask that a call to the station be
placed well ahead of time in order to arrange our inspection schedules and other activities so as
to not interfere with the tour. For a small family tour, or those that may walk by the station and
the young one says, “Can we go see the fire trucks?” Please knock on our door and we would be
happy to grant you an impromptu tour if our schedule permits! Please remember that the two
firefighters who will be giving the tour are also on duty. If a call for service happens during
your visit, please know that we will have to cut the tour short and reschedule for another time.
The Fire Department also has been known to bring a truck to you if your group is of sufficient
size! Bringing a large number of children to the station isn’t always practical of course. In that
case we are willing to bring a truck out to you for a visit and walk through. This is the most
efficient way for large daycare facilities and grade schools who want to have a hands on
experience with the fire truck. As always advanced arrangements are greatly appreciated.

FILE OF LIFE
The File of Life program has been implemented for a number of years and
continues to be a highly useful program in times where efficient transfer
of information can be vital.
The program is very simple, yet a highly informative and useful tool for
us as a fire department in emergent medical situations. The program
consists of only two items: a red magnetic holder to be placed ideally on the refrigerator, and
the other being a 2 sided informational card that fits into it. The card lists all pertinent medical
information needed by the EMS system for the person or persons residing there. This has all the
information we would need, in a very simple layout, in order to make the emergent situation go
a little better for everyone involved. This is crucial medical information we need to gather for
the entire EMS system, especially if the person lives alone and is not able to communicate with
us. Having this piece of paper readily available saves time on scene and gets the patient to
treatment that much faster, and with the proper information passed on to who needs it most,
the hospital of choice for the patient.
