2017 Annual Report • Fire Department • St. Anthony Village, Minnesota

33 | Page

Our Open House coincided with Fire Prevention
Month. This event gives the community an
opportunity to meet the firefighters that serves
them. We had numerous safety booths for people to
learn about fire and life safety. Our recreational fire
and s’mores area allowed children and families to
learn about good fire vs. bad fire all while enjoying
a nice snack. Agencies throughout the state and
county assisted us with the open house. Hennepin
County Medical Center had ambulance tours and
poison control. Ramsey County Emergency Management
was on hand with a safety booth. Courage Canines were a
new addition this year, they are a local non-profit
organization that trains dogs to assist military veterans,
law enforcement, firefighter and other EMS personnel that
live with PTSD. They brought along their newest “trainees”
who were a hit amongst all ages. We also had a vehicle
extrication demonstration. During this demo the audience
gets to see the tools we use and how we use them when
removing a vehicle from the patient. Although the day
started out a little cold and rainy, the sun appeared about
half way through the day. We estimate 650 people received
our safety messages.
Looking ahead to 2018, we will continue to build on our
fire prevention messages and educational programs. Since
fire prevention is an ever evolving field, we will need to stay ahead of trends and topics. We
will do this by taking advantage of various classes and groups.
