2017 Annual Report • Fire Department • St. Anthony Village, Minnesota

36 | Page

IX. Code Enforcement
The code enforcement process for 2017 produced 114 complaints or observed
violations that were documented by our inspector. Violations are either called in
by a resident or visually taken note of by the inspector during his survey of the
city. Our approach to code enforcement has always been one of being proactive
and trying to stay on top of issues or concerns however relying on residents to also
contact us if they believe a violation to be taking place.
Upon receiving or taking note of violations, we find that it works best to work with the property
owner and find out why the violation exists and try to remedy or repair it in an expedient and
fair manner.
Once again our most common violation for 2017 was vegetation. It
was however down from 76 in 2016 to 43. One thing that was
noticeable was 2017 had approximately 8.0 less inches of rain
versus 2016.
In the rental inspections area, we had 172 documented
inspections/re-inspections of our various rental properties around
the city. The focus of our inspector is to make sure that both the
inside and outside of the properties are up to code and that the tenants have a safe and clean
place to live.
38%
14%9%
13%
21%
5%
Code Enforcement 2017 Vegetation
Miscellaneous
Parking Violation/Expired Tabs
Signs
Structure/Yard Maintenance
Garbage/Refuse
