2017 Annual Report • Administration • St. Anthony Village, Minnesota

46

Computer Replacements
Microsoft announced recently that support for the Windows 7 operating
system will end on january 14, 2020. This means that Microsoft will no
longer offer security enhancement for vulnerabilities discovered after
that date. As a result, all computers have to be upgraded or replaced
before that date. Given the time it would take to upgrade the operating
system software and reinstall other needed software, replaceing the
computers is a more economical approach. Also, virtually all of the city
computers will have reached the end of their expected 5-year life cycle
by the end of 2019.
With the help of Roseville IT staff replacements of computers began in
2017. All the computers in the Administration, Finance and Fire Departments have been
replaced. Computers in the Police Department as well as mobile computers in all squad cars
will be replaced in 2018, with the Public Works and Liquor Operation departments scheduled
for 2019 replacements.

Building Safety
In 2017 the city completed installation of key-card access and
security camera installation at virtually all city facilities. These
systems were installed so access can be controlled to city
builidngs, remotely secure or unlock doors if needed and so public safety personnel can
monitor and access live cameras in the event of an incident.
