City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br />April 10, 2018 <br />Page 3 <br />Councilmember Stille stated he supports the request, noting this is quite a large variance at 17.5 <br />feet but would fit nicely into the neighborhood. <br />Motion by Councilmember Jenson, seconded by Councilmember Gray, to approve Resolution <br />18 -03; a Resolution Approving a Request for a 17.5 -foot variance from the rear yard setback to <br />allow for placement of a proposed sunroom 7.5 feet from the property line at 3421 Skycroft <br />Drive. <br />10 Motion Carried 5 -0. <br />12 VI. GENERAL BUSINESS OF COUNCIL. <br />13 <br />14 A. Resolution 18 -034: a Resolution to approve a request to keep four (4) chickens in an R -1 <br />15 zoning district at 3600 Coolidge Street NE. <br />16 <br />17 City Manager Casey reviewed a request that was received from the Applicants on March 26, <br />18 2018 to keep chickens on their property. The applicant provided a site plan showing the location <br />19 and dimensions of the proposed enclosure on the property, as well as a written request to the City <br />20 Council. <br />21 <br />22 The Applicants (Kevin and Kara Coppinger) provided a written request and diagram showing the <br />23 location and dimensions of the chicken coop in relation to their property. The Applicant states <br />24 that the coop will be located along the western side of the house and be located adjacent to an <br />25 existing deck, next to the house, away from the property lines. The coop will be 91" long, 39" <br />26 wide, and 49" high — a total of 24.6 square feet. All chickens will be female. The Applicants <br />27 have spoken with both neighbors that share a property line with and received verbal approval. <br />28 The back yard has an 8 -foot privacy fence around the perimeter of the property. <br />29 <br />30 Staff recommends City Council adopt the resolution. <br />31 <br />32 The applicants were present but did not have anything to add to staff s report. <br />33 <br />34 Councilmember Stille noted the resolution does not specify female chickens.
