Parks Commission Regular Meeting Minutes <br />June 11, 2018 <br />Page 2 <br /> <br /> <br />Ms. Christensen noted St. Anthony has been invited to become part of the Technical Advisory 1 <br />Committee. A booklet describing the neighborhood park plan was passed for Commission 2 <br />review. Funding is from a variety of sources. A referendum was passed two years ago to fund 3 <br />neighborhood park improvements. The criteria for ranking of the neighborhood park was 4 <br />explained. All meetings are open to the public. More details are available on their website for 5 <br />upcoming meetings and events. A Master Plan was done in 2009 but was not adopted by the 6 <br />Met Council. Possible options for the Grand Rounds Missing Link were shown to the 7 <br />Commission. If the Master Plan is adopted by the Met Council the project would be eligible 8 <br />for funding. They would like to work in collaboration with St. Anthony to realize this exciting 9 <br />regional connection. 10 <br /> 11 <br />A map was reviewed with the Commission but not shared on the video. There are a number of 12 <br />different routes with favor given to Concept A and Concept B. This map is updated almost 13 <br />daily. 14 <br /> 15 <br />Examples of regional trails around the country were presented. She asked the Commission for 16 <br />ideas of what the Park Commission would see as far as a regional trail. 17 <br /> 18 <br />Commissioner Jordahl-Redlin asked what the best way for St. Anthony to be more involved 19 <br />and to provide input from residents. Presentation of the SANBE Foundation Grant for the Construction of the New 26 <br />Nature Park 27 <br /> 28 <br />Director of Community Services and Communications Wendy Webster reviewed the SANBE 29 <br />Foundation Grant Application Form 2018 – 2019 and provided an update. This would be for a 30 <br />nature play area in the City. The grant amount requested is $11,362.70. Ms. Webster 31 <br />provided the proposal for St. Anthony Community Center. The proposal for St. Anthony 32 <br />Community Center would retain the existing playground structure, add fencing around the 33 <br />grassy area and enlarge the existing sandbox. Natural grasses would be planted along the 34 <br />fence and raised planters. Areas would be installed for children to play, explore with sand & 35 <br />water, build with sticks, and walk on logs. The basketball hoop would be removed. A sketch 36 <br />map of the expanded learning environment with key for where items would be added was 37 <br />provided. She asked if the Commission had any questions regarding this concept. 38 <br /> 39 <br />Chair Bentz confirmed the SANBE grant has been received and Ms. Webster stated it has and 40 <br />the funds are now available. Construction should start within the next few months with the 41 <br />hope that everything will be ready by September. 42 <br /> 43 <br />Sports Booster Representative Kuykendall asked if they will still have access to the equipment 44 <br />for football and Ms. Webster stated they will have access to allow equipment to be moved 45 <br />along the sidewalk. 46
