2018 Annual Report • Administration • St. Anthony Village, Minnesota

11

SUSTAINABILITY FAIR
After a multi-year hiatus, the Sustainability Fair returned to the city
on November 17th. The three-hour event was the result of a
partnership between the Citizens for Sustainability community
group and the City of St. Anthony, and took place at the
Community Center. The Sustainability Fair’s primary goal was to
promote how to become more sustainable in everyday life, while
giving residents and community members the chance to connect
with environmental organizations throughout the metro area. An emphasis was made on the
Fair being a zero-waste event, with organics and can/bottle recycling available, as well as the
use of compostable paper bags for snacks.
The Fair featured 28 non-profit organizations, an electric vehicle car show and electric bike
demonstrations. Guest speakers gave 20-minute lightning talks in the Council Chambers:
Minette Saulog (MN GreenCorps - St. Anthony Village) on energy efficiency in the home, Ben
Knudson (Hennepin County) on organics recycling, and Jukka Kukkonen (PlugInConnect) on
electric vehicle ownership. Attendees received a free organics recycling bucket and starter kit,
courtesy of Ramsey County, to promote St. Anthony’s new organics drop off site that was under
construction at the time.
Over 200 people attended the Sustainability Fair and it was an overall successful event,
showcasing the high interest and engagement of our residents in learning about sustainability.
More information will be presented in the Public Works Department’s Annual Report.
MINNESOTA GREENCORPS
In October, St. Anthony welcomed its third Minnesota GreenCorps Member,
Minette Saulog. Minette comes to the City as a recent graduate from the
University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, where she majored in
Sustainable Systems Management and completed a double minor in
Business Management and Environmental Science. The focus area for
her service year is Air Pollutant Reduction and Energy Conservation.
Some of Minette’s projects include conducting energy assessments
and retrofits on the city’s facilities, promoting green transportation
