2018 Annual Report • Fire Department • St. Anthony Village, Minnesota

27 | P a g e

These plans serve many purposes for us as a department and not just for fire events. They are a
tool for us to use when teaching new firefighters about building layouts, aids in planning for
natural disasters, hazardous material events and for evacuation planning among many other
uses. For years we have had these Pre-Plans in hand written and hand sketched form. We are in
the process of updating our Pre-Plans using newer tools and technology in order to paint a
much clearer picture of what we are walking into during the emergency. We are in the process
of updating our information on most commercial and multi-unit structures in the city. Having
advanced knowledge of building layout and certain fire related items labeled in advance, and in
hand, helps everyone involved. From the firefighter working the fire inside the structure to the
Incident Commander in charge of all firefighters on the scene.
Having Pre-Planned knowledge and hydrants supplying the correct amount of water flow does
wonders to save precious time while on the scene of an emergency, and most importantly, helps
to keep all involved a little more safe.
