City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br />April 9, 2019 <br />Page 9 <br />1 <br />2 Councilmember Jenson stated he had no report. <br />3 <br />4 Mayor Faust stated he attended the meeting with Councilmember Stille on March 29, 2019, with <br />5 Senator Laine. He stated that on March 27, 2019, he also had the opportunity to attend the <br />6 service awards for the employees. <br />7 <br />8 VIII. COMMUNITY FORUM. <br />9 <br />10 Mayor Faust invited residents to come forward at this time and address the Council on items that <br />11 are not on the regular agenda. <br />12 <br />13 John Prokopiuk, 4018 Shamrock Drive, asked about the status of the empty Walmart "elephant." <br />14 <br />15 Mayor Faust explained that typically the Council doesn't answer questions as part of the <br />16 Community Forum. <br />17 <br />18 Mr. Prokopiuk stated that it has been empty for a long time and would like to know if there were <br />19 any plans for the area. <br />20 <br />21 City Manager Casey stated that one of the actions that was taken as part of the Comprehensive <br />22 Plan discussion was that the City amended the zoning to allow for the opportunity to have multi - <br />23 family within a commercial district. He stated that this change has brought the interest of some <br />24 developers to the area. He stated that the property is not owned by the City and is completely <br />25 privately owned. He reiterated that there is no concrete plan but there has been some interest <br />26 expressed in the property. <br />27 <br />28 Mayor Faust stated that the City's goal is to get something in this location that creates economic <br />29 activity but the City has to wait for someone to bring a plan before the Council. <br />30 <br />31 Councilmember Stille stated that he also believes that there is a ground lease in place with <br />32 Walmart until 2025. <br />33 <br />34 Hearing no additional comment, Mayor Faust moved forward with the agenda. <br />35 <br />36 IX. INFORMATION AND ANNOUNCEMENTS. <br />37 <br />38 Mayor Faust noted that the Village Notes came out on April 1, 2019. He stated that for the <br />39 Mayors Water Challenge, if you go on the website to sign in, do not use "St." for Saint, but spell <br />40 it out in its entirety. <br />41 <br />42 X. ADJOURNMENT. <br />43 <br />44 Mayor Faust adjourned the April 8, 2019 meeting at 8:42 p.m. <br />45 <br />46 <br />
