Parks Commission Meeting Minutes <br />November 8, 2004 <br />Page 3 <br />22 <br />23 Commissioner Hallada referenced the lower, short retaining wall next to ball diamond at Silverpoint, <br />24 stating that there is a considerable dip in the pathway that retains water. She asked if there were any <br />25 plans to repair the drainage in this area and eliminate the dip. Public Works Director Hartman explained <br />26 that this is the way the area was designed for drainage to get the water overland to the storm drainage <br />27 pond. He stated that he would review the area and update the Commission. <br />28 <br />29 Commissioner Hallada asked if there is a warranty on the retaining wall work. She stated that the walls <br />30 on both retaining walls are bubbling and appear to be settling more than they should. Public Works <br />31 Director Hartman stated that he would take a look at it noting that it could be a problem with too much <br />32 water. <br />33 <br />34 Vice Chair Koehntop stated that he spoke with Council Liaison Stille prior to the Commission meeting <br />35 noting that he was unable to attend this evening due to an annual Council Retreat. He stated that <br />36 Council Liaison Stille suggested that the Commission consider and identify park projects that could be <br />37 included on the Council agenda. He suggested scheduling a workshop session prior to the regular Parks <br />38 Commission meeting in December. He stated that the Commission could discuss and set priorities for <br />39 two to three specific projects and formally discuss at the open meeting that would follow. <br />40 <br />41 Vice Chair Koehntop referenced Emerald Park noting that issues with the steps that lead down from the <br />- s pavilion to the parking lot. He suggested that the Commissioners visit and review the area and provide <br />their feedback at the next Parks Commission meeting. <br />44 <br />1 area he is referring to adding that he would review the hockey rink to ensure that the boards have been <br />2 installed properly. <br />3 <br />4 Commissioner Gebhardt asked if they leveled the area by the pleasure skating rink. Public Works <br />5 Director Hartman stated that he did not recall any re -grading in the area noting that it was all based on <br />6 drainage. <br />7 <br />8 Commissioner Gebhardt acknowledged the discussions regarding slow drainage in the area and asked if <br />9 this issue has been resolved. Mr. Koechlien indicated that the ramp is what caused the majority of the <br />10 problems stating that he would re -check the area. <br />11 <br />12 B. Overall Park System Discussion\Comments <br />13 <br />14 Commissioner Ganley stated that the Maplewood extension is coming along. He noted that they are <br />15 approximately a year away from good grass in the area stating that it takes time for turf establishment. <br />16 He stated that whoever is maintaining the area is doing a great job. Public Works Director Hartman <br />17 stated that staff would take a look at the area in the spring and will oversee the area as a part of the <br />18 overall maintenance process. <br />19 <br />20 Commissioner Ganley asked if there are any plans to over -seed at Silverpoint next year. Public Works <br />Director Hartman stated that they would review the area in the Spring to determine if there is a need. <br />
