Parks Commission Meeting Minutes <br />June 14, 2004 <br />Page 4 <br />1 Donation Program that is coming up in New Brighton and Shoreview. She stated that after the Grand <br />2 Opening of the Park it is her intention to relinquish her duties as Chair of the Commission noting that <br />3 before she steps down she would like to see some kind of donation program implemented in St. <br />4 Anthony. She reviewed with the Commission stating that it could be a program for individuals or <br />5 groups interested in donating an item to the Community. She stated that the donation could include <br />6 trees, shrubs, or benches that could include a plaque honoring their donation. She suggested that <br />7 Council Member Stille work with the Parks Commission to develop a plan that could be presented to <br />8 City Council for their consideration. <br />9 <br />10 Mr. Zurbey asked if there has been any further discussion regarding the possibility of installing steps for <br />11 people to get down into the park area. Chair Jindra agreed recalling that the Commission had suggested <br />12 stairs as a necessity noting that the Park Commission felt it was a very important part of the plan. She <br />13 explained that they were not able to include the steps at this time due to finances. She reviewed the list <br />14 of `wants' that did not get included in the park renovation stating that this list would be a good <br />15 beginning for the Community Donation Program. <br />16 <br />17 Public Works Director Hartman acknowledged stating that this is the first year the new park has been <br />18 open. He stated that with each year the City would continue to plan to add things and upgrade the park. <br />19 <br />20 <br />Chair Jindra asked Mr. Zurbey how the fields have been with respect to use. Mr. Zurbey stated that they <br />42 have only had a couple of home games noting that they utilize the varsity field for most of their games. <br />23 He stated that he would work with the other coaches and continue to monitor the fields throughout the <br />24 remainder of the season. <br />25 <br />26 Chair Jindra referenced the Salvation Army Camp stating that the Three Rivers Park District recently <br />27 purchased the property and plan to build a center for the arts and environment. She stated that they <br />28 would like to integrate their programs with the school system and reviewed with the Commission. She <br />29 explained that they plan to invite a variety of artists and groups to perform at the center noting that the <br />30 center would include outdoor classrooms and shelters, an amphi theatre, a pedestrian arch bridge, picnic <br />31 areas, an observatory and planetarium. She stated that they plan to begin building next fall and provided <br />32 the Commission with an overview of the area layout. <br />33 <br />34 Chair Jindra urged the Residents to come out and enjoy the Grand Opening Celebration for Central <br />35 Park. She also encouraged the Commissioners to volunteer stating that they should plan to be at the <br />36 Park by 6:00 p.m. She stated that the Dedication Ceremony would begin at 7:00 p.m. adding that all <br />37 Commissioners and City Council Members are to be on stage for the opening and introductions. <br />38 <br />39 Public Works Director Hartman asked if the Parks Commission is scheduled to meet in July and August. <br />40 Chair Jindra stated that they plan to take a break for the month of July and will decide at a later date on <br />41 a meeting date for August. <br />42 <br />VII.
