I CITY OF ST. ANTHONY
2 PARKS COMMISSION NEIGHBORHOOD MEETING MINUTES
3 December 11, 2000
4 6:30 p.m.
5 I. CALL TO ORDER.
6 Chair Jindra called the meeting to order at 6:40 p.m. and welcomed everyone in attendance.
7 II. ROLL CALL.
8 Present: Chair Carol Jindra, Commissioners Dan Ganley, Julie Gebhardt,
9 Colleen Hallada, Jan Jenson, Doug Koehntop and George Wagner
10 Absent: None.
1 t Also Present: Public Works Director Jay Hartman, Representative from Commu-
12 nity Services Diane Skrivseth; Representative from Sports
13 Boosters George Zurbey.
14 III. NEIGHBORHOOD MEETING REGARDING CENTRAL PARK.
15 Bob Kost reviewed the layout of Central Park with the Park Commissioners and neighborhood
16 members present. He indicated the north portion of the park was up for discussion as to the
17 berming and landscaping between the park and residential areas. Mr. Kost noted the shelter on
18 the north end of the park may need renovation to allow it to be used as a meeting facility and/or
19 warming house.
20 Mr. Kost reviewed the Central Park connection to the Maplewood extension. He noted additional
21 landscaping and plantings would be needed in this area to connect the two areas. Mr. Kost asked
22 for comments from the neighbors.
23 Residents expressed concerns as follows:
24 • asked if there would be parking on both sides of the street near the Maplewood extension. She
25 noted it was extremely dangerous for children crossing the street and running to ball games. She
26 added that she felt the shelter was extremely far from the hockey rink to be used as a warming
27 house for children. She added if it were moved closer, the original shelter site could be used for
28 parking.
29 • with a two story home over looking the park, a resident asked that the sledding hill be preserved
30 for the children as it gets numerous visitors and use. He noted he sees very few children using
31 the free skating rink and asked if others felt the same. Several neighbors indicated they do see
32 the skating rink used a great deal. He continued by stating he doesn't like the look of the
33 numerous chain link fences surrounding the ballfields.
