Parks Commission Neighborhood Meeting Minutes December 11, 2000 Page 2 I Zurbey noted additional plantings could be added in the park to soften the look of fences and 2 fields throughout the park. He indicated vines would be planted on the chain link fences in the 3 spring. 4 • concern where the majority of parking spaces were located in the park. He noted the Maplewood 5 extension draws numerous parked cars and was surprised someone has not been hurt to date. He 6 asked that parking be diverted from this location to Silver Lake Road. 7 • noted that moving the shelter would provide for additional parking spaces. 8 Jindra noted the Park Commission should consider closing off parking on both sides of the street 9 near the Maplewood Extension. She indicated it would be safer to only have parking on the west 10 side of the street. 11 • asked for the location of all park restrooms. Mr. Kost reviewed the locations of the three 12 washrooms within the park. 13 Jindra asked if the school could be asked to put a seasonal restroom within the parking lot of the 14 school. Mr. Kost indicated this could be addressed with the school district, but indicated there 15 was not a representative present at this time. 16 • because the skateboarding park is noisy, asked if any landscaping would be placed in this area of 17 the park. Mr. Kost indicated landscaping and a mound would be placed in this area to reduce the 18 sound and distraction of the skateboarders. 19 Jindra noted a neighbor has indicated an interest in planting trees surrounding the north and east 20 sides of the park. She asked if any neighbors present concurred with this suggestion. The 21 residents present agreed with the need for trees around the north and east lines of the park. 22 • asked if the football field would be revised. Jindra indicated the school district was not 23 interested in allowing the Park Commission to alter the football field at this time. 24 • asked if the entrance from the Maplewood Extension could be removed and reduced to eight feet 25 of concrete. Mr. Kost indicated there was concern for emergency vehicles entering this site. Mr. 26 Hartman stated there was not a need for emergency vehicles at this entrance. 27 • asked if lighting would be placed on the entrances within the park. Mr. Kost stated this has been 28 discussed, but that the Commission has found it would be beneficial to only have the main 29 entrance lit. 30 • commented that he would like to see the warming house have windows on all sides for safety. 31 Mr. Kost concurred with this suggestion.
